Staff Induction

Welcome to Heriot-Watt University

If you are about to join us or have recently taken up a post here at Heriot-Watt University, we would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to you.

The University’s employee induction comprises three parts:

Local Induction – this should be completed within your first week by your line manager or allocated induction buddy. A checklist is provided to support the local induction. A feedback form is included to help us evaluate the impact of the induction process and to continually improve effectiveness

About Heriot-Watt University – this guide is for all new employees. It can be printed, presented by your line manager or induction buddy, or completed on a self-guide basis. It gives an overview of the University (past, present and future) as well as providing useful information on practical amenities and services. We recommend all new employees spend time reading this guide within their initial few weeks within the University. It also includes the Health and Safety Induction which must be completed by all new employees within the first week

Networking lunch - this event is informal and informative, giving you the opportunity to learn more about our strategy, meet key individuals within the University and meet other new employees.

 Edinburgh Campus Tours

In addition to the formal Induction elements above, we also offer tours of the Edinburgh campus for new staff joining Heriot-Watt University. The tour lasting around one hour includes useful facts about the history and heritage of Heriot-Watt University. It will highlight student and staff facilities around the campus as well as offering insights into various interesting historical landmarks.
