At the beginning of each year, all on-campus students are required to enrol (i.e. register) with the University at the time and location specified for their course. The Information Packs sent to new and continuing students include details or our enrolment process. Enrolment is a three stage process covering a pre-enrolment meeting, online enrolment and participation in an enrolment event. Students who register late without a valid reason will be charged a fee.
Graduation at Heriot-Watt University is a very special time for our students and staff. If your graduation ceremony is approaching please ensure that you have made all the necessary arrangements for your ceremony. Information Technology (IT) provide, maintain and support the corporate IT systems available to staff and students. The University has Libraries at the Edinburgh, Scottish Borders and Dubai Campuses. This website includes information on all three libraries and the services that they offer. The University's term/session dates for the next academic year have been published. Heriot-Watt introduced a new academic structure in 2008/9. We have changed our academic year from three terms to two semesters, running for 30 weeks from mid-September to the end of May.
Heriot-Watt's Sports Academy and the Centre for Sport and Exercise provide a supportive environment to help develop individuals at all levels from recreational physical activity through to elite sports performance. The Sports Academy includes an indoor Astrodome, physiotherapy and rehabilitation suite, six full-sized UEFA football pitches and a Sports Science and Sports Medicine Centre. The Centre for Sport and Exercise includes three multi-purpose sports halls, three floodlit tennis courts, climbing wall, squash courts, Nautilus suite, and Cardiovascular suite. Our sportsmen and women represent their country internationally in many sports including athletics, karate, sailing, squash and swimming.
Our Student Services are on hand to support your learning through a wide range of provision including accommodation, computing, healthcare, sport, welfare and careers. University support complements the services and facilities offered through the Students Association. The separate offices of Academic Registry, Student Support and Accommodation, and Careers Advisory Service have been brought together to provide a seamless service to students from the point of registration through to graduation and employment.
Heriot-Watt University Students' Association exists to encourage a student orientated approach to every aspect of University life and to create an environment in which students feel safe and able to participate. The Students' Union building houses a bar, a cafe/bar, catering facilities and a venue hosting a range of events every week. There is also a Students' Association Shop located in Core next to the bank and sells everything you could need to live on or off campus at incredible prices. Our Advice and Support Centre provides help with accommodation issues, personal troubles, academic problems, financial difficulty and more.
