Equality and Diversity
Groups
Heriot-Watt
University has a number of groups which have been set up with
specific responsibilities to help move
equalities forward within the University.
The Equal
Opportunities Committee was set-up in 2002 and is made up of
representatives from across the University. The Committee
coordinates activity to promote diversity and support practices
which ensure equal opportunities for all staff, students and
visitors. This includes not only working to adhere to
anti-discriminatory legislation, but constantly striving to meet
everybody’s needs through research and consultation, whilst actively
promoting good relations between different groups. The Equal
Opportunities Committee widely acknowledges the negative impact of
discrimination and is committed to achieving equality of opportunity
and promoting diversity in the interests of the individual and the
institution as a whole. Click

The
Disability Advisory Group was also established in 2002 and looks
specifically at issues affecting disabled students and staff. The
Group is cross-departmental in its make up and has taken a lead
coordination role in the production of Heriot-Watt’s Disability
Equality Scheme. Click

The Disability
Equality Scheme Working Group was set up after an engagement
exercise across the University to involve students and staff in
creating the Disability Equality Scheme (DES). The Group has
overseen the creation of the DES and is likely to continue in an
overseeing role during the lifespan of the DES (2006-2009).
