Since its beginnings in 1883, the School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University has specialised in the education of professionals and practitioners in the global textile and fashion industries and has established a reputation as one of the world's leading design institutions. Two of the School’s fashion courses are now available at Heriot-Watt University’s Dubai campus, with the option of transferring to our UK campus for part of the degree.
The dynamic Fashion programme allows students to experience a broad knowledge of the fashion industry whilst undertaking specialist study in a subject specific pathway, either Fashion Design or Fashion Marketing & Retailing.
The unique structure of the programme enables students to choose their specialist pathway at the end of the first year, allowing time to experience the different areas of study and to develop an understanding of their own area of interest in fashion. The courses aim to produce graduates who have a clearly developed understanding of their individual identity as professionals in the fashion industry.
Fashion Design is for students who aim to work in contemporary fashion design. The pathway explores the creative process of design, pattern creation and manipulation, tailoring and product development with a modern approach to silhouette.
Graduates pursue a range of careers within the fashion industry and its related areas of design including fashion design, production and product development.
Fashion Marketing and Retailing is for students who aim to build a business career in the international fashion industry. Marketing, retail and management are core elements to this industry-focused pathway.
Graduates can enter a range of careers within the fashion industry and career opportunities are extensive from retail management, fashion marketing, buying and merchandising.
