Dubai Campus scholarships and discounts

Heriot-Watt University appreciates the investment students will make towards their education and, to help ease this financial burden, is in a position to offer the below mentioned scholarships to those who qualify.

Scholarships and discounts

Early Application Discount

June Discount

A discount of AED 3000 will be awarded to any student, (foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate excluding MBA) applying and paying tuition fee deposit by 7 June 2016 for September 2016 intake.

  • Application deadline: 7 June 2016
  • To avail of this discount, students must apply and pay 10% of their tuition fees as advance payment (non-refundable) against their tuition fee. UAE based students must also provide the required post-dated cheques for their tuition fees dated from 5th September 2016. The advance payment and post-dated cheques (if applicable) must be paid on or before 7 June 2016.
  • The Early Application discount amount of AED 3000 will be distributed equally across the Instalment plan.
  • Note the other eligibility criteria below.

Eligibility criteria

  • Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus Degree Entry Programme (DEP) students who enrolled in September 2015 or Jan 2016 are not eligible to apply for this discount when progressing to the undergraduate level.
  • Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus Undergraduate students completing their degree by September 2016 are eligible to apply for this discount when applying for a postgraduate programme for September 2016 intake.
  • This discount is applicable for students who have received an Unconditional Offer Letter or a Conditional Offer Letter from the university. Students who have received a Conditional Offer Letter must provide the remaining documents to receive an Unconditional Offer Letter from the university before the start of the academic year. In case a student does not meet the conditions required, his/her admission and early application discount both will become void and any tuition fee paid will be refunded back to the student.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, the advance payment of the fees paid is non-refundable if an unconditional offer letter has been issued to the applicant
Full Advance Fee Payment Discount

A discount of 3% of the net annual tuition fees will be awarded to any student, (foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate excluding MBA) who pays their net annual tuition fees in full before 1st September 2016 for the September Intake or before 1st January 2017 for the January Intake. If an offer letter is sent to the student after the deadline, then to avail the full advance fee payment discount the student must pay the annual tuition fee within 7 days of receiving the offer.

  • To avail this discount, fees must be paid in cash, by current dated cheque, or through bank transfer.
  • A student who first pays 10% of their fees (and PDCs for non-international students) to confirm their place for the chosen programme, and then decides to pay the tuition fee in full will also be eligible for this discount.
  • International students, who pay their fees in full, are also eligible to apply for this discount.
  • The discount will be calculated on the net tuition fee, after deducting any other applicable scholarship(s) or discounts received by the student.
Corporate Companies Discount

Groups of student working in the same organization and applying & enrolling for any of the post graduate programmes (excluding MBA) for the same intake will be eligible to the following discount upon enrollment:

  • A group of 3 – 5 students enrolling in the same intake will receive a 5% discount off tuition fees of the post graduate programmes applied for (excluding MBA)
  • A group of 6 and more students enrolling in the same intake will receive a 10% discount off tuition fees of the post graduate programmes applied for (excluding MBA)

Corporate Discount Terms & Conditions

  • Students need to submit proof that they are all currently work for the same organization.
  • The discount applies to candidates from the same organization regardless of the country they are employed in.
  • The discount applies to candidates enrolling in postgraduate programmes in the same intake only and does not apply to those enrolling for the MBA.
  • The discount will be applied only after the enrollment of the whole group in the relevant intake
Merit Scholarship
  • Merit students may qualify for a 100% first year scholarship by direct entry into the second year of a Bachelor Programme. Details of the criteria for direct admission into second year are listed in the prospectus however the decision remains at the discretion of the course director after evaluating scores of individual relevant subjects.
  • Merit students who are eligible to be admitted directly into second year but choose to join first year, will be awarded an annual Merit Scholarship of up to 20% of the annual fees until year 3 then a 40% scholarship on the honour’s year of study (the continuity of the scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without re-sits).
  • Students that meet the overall scores required for second year entry, but are not accepted (usually due to not meeting an individual subjects’ criteria) are eligible for a Merit Scholarship of 15% on 1st year's tuition fees, except for students applying for the School of Textile and Design and the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences who will be eligible to a 20% Merit scholarship on the 1st year’s tuition fees should they meet the overall score of the second year entry but are not accepted in to year 2 due to not meeting relevant subject criteria for year 2 entry. .

International Baccalaureate Diploma students with:

  • 25 points get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study
  • 26 or 27 points get 15% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study
  • 28 points and above get 100% scholarship on the first year tuition fee in the form of direct entry into year 2 (upon fulfilling core subject requirements), or the students who do not wish to join year 2 directly could alternatively opt to join year 1 and get 20% scholarship on each year’s annual fees until year 3 of study then a 40% scholarship on the honour’s year of study (the continuity of the scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without re-sits).

A level student with grades equivalent to:

  • 260 – 279 UCAS Points (eg: BCC or A*A in relevant subjects) get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study*
  • 280 – 299 UCAS Points (eg: BBC or ACC or A*A* in relevant subjects) get 15% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study*
  • 300 UCAS Points and above (Equivalent to BBB or higher in relevant subjects) get 100% scholarship on the first year tuition fee in the form of direct entry into year 2 (upon fulfilling core subject requirements) , or the students who do not wish to join year 2 directly could alternatively opt to join year 1 and get 20% scholarship on each year’s annual fees until year 3 of study then a 40% scholarship on the honour’s year of study (the continuity of the scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without re-sits).

* A combination between AS and A level subjects for UCAS points may be considered in entry and scholarships for applying to year 1 as long as there is no duplication in the subjects taken by the students at AS level and A level

CBSE students with:

  • 80% – 83.9% get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study
  • 84% -84.9% get 10% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study
  • 85% and above get 100% scholarship on the first year tuition fee in the form of direct entry into year 2 (upon fulfilling core subject requirements), or the students who do not wish to join year 2 directly could alternatively opt to join year 1 and get 20% scholarship on each year’s annual fees until year 3 of study then a 40% scholarship on the honour’s year of study (the continuity of the scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without re-sits).**

Tawjihiyya students with:

 

  • 90% - 94.9% get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study***
  • 95%-100% get 10% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study***

American high school students with an average of 80% and above with:

  • SAT 1 score of 1600 - 1699 get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study****
  • SAT 1 score of 1700 – 1799 get 15% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study****
  • SAT 1 score of 1800 and above get 100% scholarship on the first year tuition fee in the form of direct entry into year 2 (upon fulfilling core subject requirements), or the students who do not wish to join year 2 directly could alternatively opt to join year 1 and get 20% scholarship on each year’s annual fees until year 3 of study then a 40% scholarship on the honour’s year of study (the continuity of the scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without re-sits)****

Iranian Pre-university certificate students with:

  • Score of 16 - 17.9% (out of 20) get 5% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study*****
  • Score of 18 +(out of 20) get 15% scholarship on net tuition fee applicable for the first year of study*****

Degree Entry Programme students:

100% DEP Scholarships for high academic achievers

This Scholarship offers a specific group of high academic achievers the opportunity to enjoy a full year of free tuition fees (40,000 AED) for the Degree Entry Programme. The scholarship is structured as follows:

  • 6,000 AED off each of the DEP and years 1-3 tuition fees of the programme the student progresses into and 16,000 AED off the 4th, Honours year. This scholarship is subject to successful progression to the following year without any re-sits

High academic achievers eligible for this scholarship are:

  • Students that Score at least 5 A grades in relevant IGCSE/GCSE subjects.
  • Students studying the Filipino high school system and scoring 95% and above in relevant subjects
  • Students studying the Kazakh high school system and scoring 5 in every relevant subject + IELTS of 6.0 - WAEC students scoring 5 B2’s in relevant subjects

Students that meet the overall scores for the 100% DEP scholarship but do not qualify for it (usually due to not meeting an individual core subjects’ criteria) are eligible for a Merit Scholarship of 15% on the Foundation year's tuition fees. However, it should be only one core subject, and that core subject should be a minimum of B grade or equivalent

Alumni Scholarship

2016 Fresh Graduates 20% Scholarship:

  • This is offered on published tuition fees to Heriot-Watt University undergraduate students graduating in 2016 who qualify and decide to join one of the Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus’s Postgraduate Programmes in September 2016 only
  • An Alumni Scholarship of 10% of the published tuition fee is awarded to all other students that have previously graduated with a degree from Heriot-Watt University
Family Scholarship
  • Family Scholarships of 3,000 AED will be offered when two or more students from the same immediate family enroll for any Foundation, Undergraduate or Postgraduate programme. Immediate family members include parents, spouse, and siblings.
  • This scholarship will not apply to the first full time enrolled student, but only to the second, third, etc. full time family members.
  • This scholarship will only apply for every year of study if there are two or more active and enrolled family members paying their fees in the same academic year.
  • The scholarship amount will be distributed equally across the instalment payments made by the student.
Hardship Scholarship
  • Assistance with the payment of tuition fees may be available to help continuing undergraduate students only who have experienced unforeseen circumstances and are therefore in need of financial assistance towards payment of tuition fees.
  • This scholarship is only applicable for undergraduate students (excluding any part-time programmes)
  • Scholarships are offered at a range of values and vary on a case to case basis
  • Students will be required to submit relevant documents such as guardians’ salary certificate, expense sheet, bank statements, full annual income declaration etc., in addition to the scholarship application form
  • When deciding on who would qualify for this scholarship, priority will be given to students with high academic performance.
  • The Hardship Scholarship will be drawn from the balance of scholarships (or any contingency available), and hence the University may not be able to award all deserving cases due to budget restraints.
  • A Hardship Scholarship Committee will review and grant these scholarships in accordance with the qualification criteria.
PhD scholarships

We are offering 3 Full Tuition Fee scholarship opportunities for applicants to our PhD programmes.

Terms and conditions for all scholarships/discounts above
  1. Students cannot apply for and receive more than one type of scholarship award. Students however can qualify for more than one discount.
  2. Unless otherwise stated, scholarships mentioned above do not apply to students studying the MBA.
  3. Unless otherwise stated, all scholarships except Alumni Scholarship apply to full-time programmes commencing in September 2016, at the Dubai Campus and cannot be used for study at other campuses.
  4. Unless otherwise stated, all scholarships are to be offered once, for the first year only
  5. Students must apply for scholarships using the scholarship request form and must attach all required supporting documents as mentioned in the scholarship form by the deadline date of 1 September 2016 (or applicable date as mentioned).
  6. Additional forms and supporting documents may be required to decide on a scholarship/discount request and must be in English (certified translated documents must be provided if the documents are not in English)
  7. Scholarships cannot be exchanged for cash or be transferred
  8. The University reserves the right to withdraw or amend any scholarship/discount from time to time.
  9. The University reserves the right to cancel any award of scholarship/discount if a student is found in breach of any guidelines set by the University or has falsified any information.
  10. The decisions made by the University are final and there are no provisions or processes for appeal.
  11. Above scholarships and discounts apply to study option at the Dubai Campus only and cannot be transferred to other campuses.
