We Responded... |
| "I'd like to practice doing aptitude tests but can't really spare the 2 - 3 hours to attend the sessions run by the Careers Service" | As well as providing access to online practice Aptitude and Personality Tests, we have changed the way we run the classroom based sessions. We will now run more 'single' sessions over the year, concentrating on one type of test per session. This means that no practice aptitude test session should last more than 1 hour. |
| "I think it should be easier to find information on jobs using my degree subject" | We are constantly trying to improve our careers information service to students. One of the ways we have responded to student feedback is to set up information pages on this web site that are specific to the subject areas taught at Heriot-Watt. Simply go to Career options with your degree subject and select your subject area. We have also set up subject related folders in the Careers Information Room (SR 1.13) |
| "Careers advice should be made available by email" | As well as being able to contact us at careers@hw.ac.uk, you can now use Advice Direct - our online advice and information service. |
| "The Careers Service should advertise its services more widely" | We are constantly trying to find more effective ways of letting our students and graduates know about our services. As well as doing class talks for most students, we have an information stand at registration; a presence on the Bridge Link area twice a term and regularly email specific student groups with news of events and presentation that are relevant to their degree subject. We will be running regular focus groups this year to ask students about the most effective way of marketing our services. |
| "More provision should be made for Languages students" | A dedicated section for Languages students can now be found in the Your Subject Area section of the web site. The Careers Information Room (SR 1.13) has specialist folders for Languages students with information about employers who have advertised languages related vacancies in the past; career options for Languages graduates and specialist recruitment agencies. |
| "Your web site should be searchable to make it easier to find what you want" | We added a search facility on the 'Home' page of our web site |
| "Vacancy listings should be updated more often that twice a month" | If you register with the Jobs Direct service, you will have 24/7 access to our vacancy database which is updated on a daily basis |
| "More time should be available to correct the style of my CV" | We have added an online CV Checker to help you assess the style and content of your CV at your convenience |
| "It would be better if 'Student Jobs' was web based" | We have now launched Jobs Direct. This allows you search for part-time, vacation and finalist jobs online. If you register with Jobs Direct you will get information on new vacancies sent direct to your email address |
