Technology transfer through licensing, spin-out or start-up company creation plays an increasingly important role in university knowledge exchange.
This role is specifically important in maximising the impact of publicly or privately funded research to both society and the global economy.
Heriot-Watt has a reputation as one of the leading Scottish University Technology Transfer Offices and works closely with its Research staff to identify, protect and commercialize Heriot-Watt research; promote best practices in Technology Transfer and also provides a range of highly successful entrepreneurial training seminars to staff and students.
We are continuously researching exciting technologies that are available for license for product and process development, new applications and improved services that can help you grow your business.
We now offer easy access to our intellectual property (IP) portfolio to companies and individuals interested in licensing certain of its technologies for “free” on a non-exclusive basis.
Our role is to identify, protect & manage IP, prepare non-confidential overview, investigate market and identify partners, contact potential licensees, facilitate confidential meetings, negotiate terms of any deal/ collaboration and conclude and sign.
Heriot Watt University has a strong track record in commercialisation of intellectual property through creation of technology companies in a broad range of fields that reflect our key strengths in energy, engineering, the environment, risk and design.
