Converge Challenge '13
Converge Challenge is the largest business competition and entrepreneurial training programme in Scotland with the top prize of £60,000. We provide training, hands-on mentoring, business support and give out cash prizes up to £35,000. We are open to staff, postgraduate and final year students of all Scottish Universities and Research Institutes. We work with any industry sector, product- or service-based ideas at any stage of development.
Winner of Converge Challenge 2013
SACCADE Diagnostics, from University of Aberdeen was last night announced as the winner of Converge Challenge 2013 at an Awards Dinner in front of 200 guests addressed by John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth. Madhu Nair and Philip Benson beat off tough competition to secure the top prize of £60,000 in cash and business support to help develop a novel eye-movement test to help in the diagnosis of psychiatric disorders.
Our second prize was awarded to Kanika Bansal, Medicen Devise from University of Edinburgh who developed an IV device that reduces the risk of infection. Helen Fisher and Liita Naukushu from Beckdales Ltd, University of Edinburgh, scooped third prize for their range of home and industrial cleaning products aimed to dramatically reduce the spread of infections.

Congratulations to our Kickstart winners, Zsolt Ero and Anton Caius Gurgu, from Sologram, University of Edinburgh, who have won £2,000 to develop techniques for 3D face and finger tracking.
Well done to our runners up, Tracey Thomson from University of the West of Scotland for TagieTM, a wristband for children to store information, and Renata Pilikinaite from University of Glasgow for Eventthread, a web portal that pools events and makes user-specific suggestions.
