The Heriot-Watt University Collections of archives, museum objects and works of art tell the unique story of the University's history from its groundbreaking origins in 1821 as the Edinburgh School of Art, the first Mechanics Institute, to the present day. The Collections also reflect the history of the communities that have shaped its development. The University Collections are held in trust for current and future generations, for public benefit as part of the scientific, educational and artistic heritage of the nation.

The University Heritage and Information Governance manages and provides access to the University’s museum and archive collections.
