Information security
Information is the lifeblood of the University. Whether our work involves teaching, research or providing professional support services, we all depend on accessible, accurate and reliable records. As Scotland’s most international university we need to share information with colleagues, students and academic partners worldwide. At the same time we must protect confidential information to ensure that it doesn’t get into the wrong hands.
Good information security boils down to us all applying simple common sense measures. We need to treat the confidential information that we use in our work with the same care that we should apply to our own personal information at home. This means keeping sensitive paper records under lock and key, using encryption and strong passwords to protect data on memory sticks, laptops and smart phones and destroying information securely when it is no longer needed.
On these pages you can find all you need to know about university policies, procedures and guidance on information security and records management.
REALISM
In order to balance the need to enable access to and protect confidential information the University has developed the REALISM project – Real Information Security Management.
