Job description
This is a recently created position within the University's Academic Enhancement department that expands on its public engagement and knowledge exchange training and development portfolio also provided through AE's Research Futures and Beltane work. The post aims to facilitate and develop new opportunities for our academic research community to participate in and lead a broad range of public engagement and outreach activities via our new programme called "Heriot-Watt Engage". Via this post and in partnership with Beltane, we aspire to embed an ethos of public engagement across the academic Schools comprising Heriot-Watt University.
Candidates should have, or be about to be awarded, a PhD as well as possess considerable demonstrable experience of designing and delivering public engagement and knowledge exchange training and development activities for a broad range of public audiences based on your current research. You should be a confident and creative communicator who is able to build and support the development of researcher and practitioner networks across the Beltane partnership as well as represent Academic Enhancement and Heriot-Watt University at a diversity of externally focused events and meetings. You should have in-depth knowledge of successfully translating your own research field for a wider audience e.g. through innovative outreach projects aimed at children and young adults and knowledge exchange training, especially focused on public policy engagement and impact.
The role is required for a fixed term period of 8 months as maternity cover and would be suitable for candidates seeking either a full-time position or a job-share. The selection panel will be chaired by Prof Alan Miller, Deputy Principal for Research & KT, Heriot-Watt University and interviews are likely to be held in the period between 21st and 30th August 2013.
