Job description

Enhancing academic practice is integral to the core objectives of Heriot-Watt University as it focuses on excellence in its Learning & Teaching and Research & Knowledge Exchange strategies.

Heriot-Watt University’s ‘Academic Enhancement’ department has been established with the aim of supporting and facilitating research and teaching excellence and innovation by the institution’s entire academic community (ranging from PhD students and research associates to lecturers and professorial staff). 

Your role will be to support the work of Academic Enhancement in delivering a variety of highly-regarded, University –wide and national development programmes for the academic community (PhD students, Research Associates, Lecturers and Professorial staff), particularly the 'Scottish Crucible', 'Research Futures' and 'Heriot-Watt Engage' programmes.  You will be part of the administrative team in Academic Enhancement and be responsible for undertaking organisation and provision of high quality and comprehensive administration support for both on and off-campus activities, often in collaboration with colleagues from external partner organisations.  You will liaise with a wide range of colleagues and "customers" on a daily basis, and prepare and promote Academic Enhancement programmes using various on-line, web-based tools and resources.

The successful candidate will have proven administrative, organisational and interpersonal skills, preferably gained in a Higher Education environment.  The ability to communicate well with students, staff and external collaborators at all levels is essential as are excellent IT skills which preferably include experience of maintaining databases and web pages.  You will be well-organised, enthusiastic, and enjoy working collaboratively and learning new office procedures.  Reliability, accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to work flexibly with a diverse workload are also requisite for this post.

Interviews will be held in August 2013.  The selection process will include a panel interview and skills test.
