June Maxwell, Personal Assistant to the Head of the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences
I first joined Heriot-Watt in 1993 as a Residences Assistant, and my duties included cleaning.†I soon got promoted to Housekeeper, where I supervised 8 staff but, in 2002, I decided it was time for a career change.
My advice to new staff would be to take advantage of the great training courses that are available to you here; that's what I did
So, after attending night classes and taking part in training provided by the University, I got a new position as a Clerical Assistant within the School of Mathematical & Computer Sciences. Then, in 2007, I got promoted to my current role.
Variety & flexibility
During my time at Heriot-Watt, Iíve also been a lay member of Court (the body that regulates the University) and I'm now a member of Convocation (a body of Court). I enjoy being part of this as itís great to learn about how things happen in the University.
I've enjoyed being able to move around here. I've been able to try new roles and I feel as though Iíve really been able to develop.

Heriot-Watt is a friendly place with great colleagues, good benefits and a lovely campus.
Iíve enjoyed working here: I've made lots of good friends in my colleagues and had some fun times.
